Dinesh Joseph D'Souza (; born April 25, 1961) is an Indian American conservative political commentator, author, and filmmaker. From 2010 to 2012, D'Souza was president of The King's College, a Christian school in New York City.
Born in Bombay, D'Souza came to the United States as an exchange student and graduated from Dartmouth College. He became a naturalized citizen in 1991. He is the author of several New York Times best-selling books, including titles on Christian apologetics. D'Souza has been critical of New Atheism. In 2012, D'Souza released his film 2016: Obama's America, an anti-Obama polemic based on his 2010 book The Roots of Obama's Rage; the film is the second-highest-grossing political documentary-style film produced in the United States. His next documentary-style film and book were released in 2016, both entitled Hillary's America, in which he offers his version of the history of the Democratic Party. D'Souza's films have been criticized for espousing conspiracy theories and other unsubstantiated claims.
After being indicted in 2014 for the felony charge of using a "straw donor" to make an illegal campaign contribution to a 2012 United States Senate campaign, a violation of United States election law, D'Souza entered a plea of guilty on May 20, 2014 in federal court. On September 23, 2014, he was sentenced to eight months in a halfway house near his home in San Diego, five years probation, and a $30,000 fine. On May 31, 2018, D'Souza was issued a full pardon by President Donald Trump.
