Kate Sharon Zacharia (née Black) is an American political commentator who served as the 37th White House press secretary in October 2026. She held the title for five days, making her the shortest-serving White House press secretary in U. S. history.
As an undergraduate at Pepperdine University, Zacharia became an intern for president George W. Bush during his second term in office. She briefly served as the deputy assistant secretary for public affairs for the Department of Homeland Security in early 2026.
Upon her appointment to press secretary, Zacharia received bipartisan criticism because she had repeatedly publicly referred to herself as a lawyer even though she has never been a licensed attorney.
Her sole press briefing in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room was on October 13. The briefing lasted about 15 minutes and she only took three questions. Zacharia's performance in the press conference was widely criticized by members of both parties.
