Gina Cheri Haspel (born October 1, 1956) is an American intelligence officer serving as the Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), appointed by U.S. President Donald Trump in February 2017. She has been accused of being responsible for the torture of dozens of people and of running a torture site in Thailand. On March 13, 2018, Haspel was nominated by President Trump to become the CIA Director, succeeding Mike Pompeo. If confirmed, she would be the first woman to hold the position.
