Basavaraj Somappa Bommai (born 28 January 1960) is an Indian politician and engineer. On 28 July 2021, he will succeed B. S. Yediyurappa as Chief Minister of Karnataka. He is a 3-time member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Shiggaon since 2008. Bommai was a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council between 1998 and 2008.
He earlier was the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislature of Karnataka in the Fourth Yediyurappa ministry. He also served as Haveri and Udupi District Incharge Minister. He previously served as Minister for Water Resources and Cooperation between 2008 to 2013.
He is the son of the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, S. R. Bommai. A graduate in mechanical engineering, he started his political career with the Janata Dal.
