David Madison Cawthorn (born August 1, 1995) is an American politician who has served as the U. S. representative for North Carolina's 11th congressional district since 2021. A member of the Republican Party, he is the first member of Congress born in the 1990s and the third-youngest in U. S. history. He describes himself as a Christian and a constitutional conservative. After working as a staffer for Republican Representative Mark Meadows, Cawthorn was elected to succeed the departing Meadows in 2020. His tenure was marked by various controversies, including allegations of insider trading, improper payments, and a leaked sexual video. Cawthorn lost his re-election bid when he was defeated in the 2022 Republican primary by Chuck Edwards.
